Ruth Kent is an Irish textile designer. Her London based creative practice focuses on fun and play, subversion and joy, and most importantly colour. On the good days it is even a little funny. Describing herself as a colour collector, Kent continuously explores new and exciting colour proportions and combinations through her print and woven work.
While studying at Central Saint Martins, Ruth specialised in woven textiles where she harnessed A deep love for fabricating textile worlds. Alongside her woven work she often finds herself working within print to explore her love of pattern making. Her strengths lie in colour, garment dyeing, printED & woven textiles and studio management. She is on a continuous journey to keep searching, experimenting and discovering design that innovates and invigorates.
Ruth is currently part of The King’s Foundation Designer / Maker Residency for emerging graduates with an outstanding creative aptitude in their field. She is a Friend of Paul Smith’s Foundation as well as part of the Graduate Talent Programme at Fashion Crossover London. sHE WAS SELECTED AS ONE OF 25 FINALISTS FROM ACROSS THE UK FOR tEX+, A SHOWCASE FOR TEXTILE dESIGN gRADUATES. tO DATE she has worked for Alexander McQueen, Denzilpatrick, Paul Smith, AGR KNIT AND lONDON FIELDS DESIGN SCHOOL.
HER DEBUT BOOK LAUNCH AND EXHIBITION "FOR ALL THE JOY TO COME" WILL TAKE PLACE ON JANUARY 20TH AT PHOTOBOOK CAFE, 4 Leonard Circus, London EC2A 4DQ FROM 6PM. All ARE welcome.
